Iwo Jima Sea Cadets can earn their flight wings in the following order:
- Earn your bronze wings by completing FAA Ground School and passing the exam
- Earn your silver wings by continuing your aviation education with a Students Pilot license
- Earn your gold wings by completing flight school and obtaining your private pilots license
Through a local partnership with the Young Eagles, cadets can earn their bronze wings for free by attending a Pre-flight Instruction Course and completing the no cost online FAA Ground School and exam with assistance from our instructors. Additional opportunities to further your aviation training are available including voucher for your first flight lesson and scholarships to complete your private pilots license. Contact the XO for an application and additional details, dates and times. See what experience other Sea Cadets have had using this path to flight:
Another opportunity is through our National HQ partnership with the National Flight Academy, the worlds largest virtual Aircraft Carrier simulator, in Pensacola, Florida. For $200 cadets can attend the National Flight Academy for 7 day basic aviation training and may earn a scholarship to return and complete their full pilots license.
Upon arrival cadets will be paired up with “Flight Partners” and then formed into Squadrons. Cadets will then participate in the NFA "Ambition" program. Ambition Program.
Training is made available during the summer and winter training periods. Watch for the announcement from the Commanding Officer.
